LA COLLEZIONE DI EDGARDO MEDA AL CEDAC

Un'altra importante acquisizione per il Centro Educativo delle Arti Circensi di Verona. La collezione integrale di Edgardo Meda fa ora parte del materiale raccolto al Centro veronese.

Edgardo Meda, viveva a Buccinasco, in provincia di Milano. Era stato fra i più tenaci e costanti collezionisti ed archivisti italiani del secondo Novecento. La sua attenzione si concentrava su locandine ed articoli di giornale che raccoglieva in enorme quantità. Ma la raccolta comprende materiale di ogni tipo. Molte le videocassette e le foto, in gran parte scattate da lui stesso nelle sue visite a circhi grandi e piccoli in particolare nel Nord Ovest dell’Italia. La conoscenza della materia gli aveva permesso di redigere numerosi articoli per le principali riviste italiane di appassionati (Circo e In cammino). Era inoltre fra i pochi disposti a mettere a disposizione il frutto del suo lavoro a studenti e ricercatori che andavano appositamente a trovarlo.

Dalla sua scomparsa (novembre 2007), la collezione era custodita presso la Provincia Religiosa San Marziano di Don Orione di Milano. Dopo le ricerche e la richiesta diAntonio Giarola e Valeria Bolgan del CEDAC, il Direttore Generale dell’istituzione,Don Dorino Zordan, sentiti i pareri dell’Economo Don Alessandro D'Acunto e dell’assistente, dottoressa Manuela Levy, ha deciso di affidare al centro veronese l’imponente “Collezione Meda”, sotto forma di cataste di materiali da catalogare.

Fra breve al CEDAC sarà quindi aperto il “Fondo Edgardo Meda” con l’impegno di utilizzarlo per scopo di documentazione e studio, rispettando così le volontà dell’appassionato scomparso. Il Fondo si unirà a quelli già esistenti di Alessandro Cervellati, Massimo Alberini e di altri grandi studiosi ed appassionati della materia.

Another important acquisition for the Educational Centre for Documentation of Circus Arts of Verona. The full collection of Edgardo Meda is now part of the material collected at the Veronese Centre.

Edgardo Meda lived in Buccinasco, in the province of Milan. He was among the most tenacious and persevering Italian collectors and archivists of the second part of the Twentieth century. 

His attention was focused on posters and newspaper articles collected in huge quantities. But the collection includes material of all kinds. There are many videos and pictures, mostly taken by himself in his visits to large and small circuses in particular in the North West of Italy. The knowledge of the subject allowed him to write numerous articles for leading Italian fan magazines (Circo and In Cammino). He was also among the few agreeable to make available the fruits of his work to students and researchers who came specifically to see him.

After his death (November 2007), the collection was kept in the Religious Province San Marziano of Don Orione in Milan. After the research and the application ofAntonio Giarola and Valeria Bolgan of CEDAC, the General Director of the institution, Don Dorino Zordan, heard the opinions of the Bursar Don Alessandro D'Acunto and of the assistant Dr. Manuela Levy, decided to entrust to the Veronese centre the "Meda Collection" in the form of numerous materials to be cataloged.

Soon at CEDAC will be open the “Edgardo Meda Fund” with a commitment to use it for purposes of documentation and study, thus respecting the wishes of the enthusiast gone. The Fund will join the already existing ones of Alessandro Cervellati, Massimo Alberini and other great scholars and enthusiasts of the subject.
